Smart card reader for ExpressCard54 interface
The ExpressCard54 standard was developed by members of the PCMCIA organisation that includes leading technology firms, card manufacturers and representatives of the PC card industry. As inventor of the PCMCIA standard and owner of related world-wide patents, Identive naturally has played a prominent role in the development of this new standard.
The ExpressCard interface is the official successor of the PCMCIA interface and was introduced by Intel with its Sonoma technology. Computers and laptops equipped with this new interface are increasingly available on the market. The main advantage of this format is its higher data transfer rate of 344,105 bps, which ensures high throughput without delays. The interface is based on the new PCI Express standard, unlike the old format which is based on PCI. The ExpressCard54 reader SCT3340 offers all the advantages of the ExpressCard standard. Using this standard, devices are powerful and easy to use, but smaller than conventional PCMCIA-based cards. Additionally, the ExpressCard54 is hot-pluggable, meaning you can insert the card after booting and it will be automatically detected and configured. This provides you with various expansion options.
